St. Louis City SC: The latest on Nökkvi Thórisson, Conrado & Selmir Pidro
It has been a quiet transfer period for St. Louis CITY SC this summer. But that does not mean things are not in the works. Transfermarkt has spoken with sources, and a clear picture is now emerging about some of the club’s potential transfer activities this summer. The most promising name in the rumor mill is Icelandic striker Nökkvi Thórisson from Beerschot. But sources also have suggested that the club is still in contact with Lechia Gdansk over the possibility of signing Conrado. In the case of Selmir Pidro, the club is currently looking for a potential loan destination.
Negotiations for both players have been difficult, however. In the case of Thórisson, sources out of Belgium have suggested that a deal could be concluded as early as today. But other sources were more cautious, and a deal appears far from being done. Beerschot have asked for as high as just under €1 million. St. Louis’ evaluation of the player is far lower and stands at €500,000 plus add-ons that could see the deal grow to perhaps around €650,000, which is Thórisson’s current market value.
But what type of player is Thórisson? “He isn’t a killer striker everyone wants,” Transfermarkt Area Manager Belgium Bart Tamsyn said when asked about the player. “He was bought as a striker, but it took a while for Beerschot to find the best system to play in. In the end, it seemed a 3-man attacking line with him on the left, Thibo Baeten in the center, and Thibaud Verlinden on the right was the best solution. He went a lot inside to make room for the left wingback and to shoot on target with his right foot.” Although the underlying numbers are promising, Thórisson seems like a depth piece and not a new no.9 capable of replacing the injured João Klauss if it came to it.

Whether Thórisson will arrive will depend on Beerschot’s Saudi ownership. Talks have been described as difficult and on and off. And there is a good chance they could fall apart entirely if a solution is not accepted soon. The same can be said for Conrado from Polish club Lechia. Lechia are owned by the Emirate investment fund company MADA Global and those negotiations too have been described as difficult and are currently at a standstill. Should Conrado arrive, the Brazilian will be another depth piece to aid St. Louis through the final stretch of the season.
One source told Transfermarkt that in the case of both players, it could go either way. Talks could resume, and a conclusion could come quickly. But deals could also fall apart. But with new players arriving, some players might also be on their way out. One candidate is Selmir Pidro. Pidro was brought in as a promising left-back from FK Sarajevo but has struggled for playing time. Decision-makers at the club still believe that Pidro could become an important piece for the club, and a loan move to either a USL Championship or Canadian Premier League club could be in the cards should his situation not improve in the next few weeks.
