Jamshedpur FC breaking FC Goa - Does it indicates Lobera’s next move?

Jamshedpur FC are breaking the backbone of FC Goa, a statement that testify with the Men of Steel’s signing of Edu Bedia and Jackichan Singh. Adding to that, Antonio Iriondo’s side are also closing in on Ahmed Jahouh, another lynchpin for the Gaurs in the middle of the park. Is it an indication that Sergio Lobera is heading to the Tata owned club?

It could very well be, considering that a coach always pull some players with himself wherever he goes. Moreover, Jamshedpur FC are tied are up with La Liga giants, Atletico Madrid,  who are very keen to infuse the exciting Spanish brand of football; And Lobera is the perfect choice for that. He is a Spaniard himself, got the experience of working in India and have a track record of infusing the style of play that Jamshedpur FC have been struggling for.

Achievement with FC Goa

Sergio Lobera joined FC Goa in 2017 and built the team from scratch after finishing bottom of the table under Brazilian legend Zico the previous season. Gradually, he transformed the side, infused a brand of football and moulded them into one of the most entertaining and consistent sides. The 43-year-old guided FC Goa to the playoffs in his first season, followed by a 2nd place finished in the second season. They went down 0-1 in the extra time to ATK in the ISL final before laying their hands on the Super Cup trophy.

Before his sacking at the fag end of the current season, the Gaurs have already scored 36 goals and were very much on course for the AFC Champions League spot. But a rift with the management cut-short their journey together.

Offer from other clubs

Right after Lobera’s unceremonious exit, he was flooded with offers from as many as four Indian Super League clubs, according to KhelNow. Kerala Blasters FC were seriously chasing his signature including offers back from Spain. However, the astute tactician was keen to stay back in India and its just a matter of time before his next association is announced.
