Transfermarkt has now published its latest market value update for the Austrian Bundesliga and both the biggest winners and the biggest losers come from the ranks of Red Bull Salzburg. The serial winners of the Austrian top-flight, who are lagging behind their usual standards of days gone by, have failed to impress either domestically or in Europe this season. One bright spot, however, is Oscar Gloukh: the Israeli newcomer established himself in the “Bulls” midfield and also performed well in the Champions League. As such, his market value has gone up from €10 million to €15m.

Samson Baidoo, who took his chance due to Salzburg's personnel problems in defence, was also upgraded. This was rewarded with his debut in the Austrian national team under Ralf Rangnick and has now seen his value increase by €5m to €8m. Roko Simic completes the trio of top winners, as the centre forward also recorded a €5m increase to €10m. The red marker, however, was out to mark down two attackers: Fernando and Sekou Koita, who have been unable to get going this season due to ongoing injuries. While the former falls from €10m to €6m, Koita falls from €7m to €5.5m. Fernando is the player with the most significant loss in this update. Nevertheless, Salzburg remains the dominant team and have no less than twelve players in the most valuable player rankings.

Only Alexander Prass from SK Sturm Graz breaks through this duopoly, who remains the highest-rated player outside of the league giants. The winger was on the verge of a move to Lorient in France in the summer, but ended up staying with Sturm and recently signed a new contract until 2026. Prass, who had also been linked with moves to Stuttgart and Freiburg, has received a small upgrade from €7.5m to €8m. Further increases for Graz include David Affengruber (+€0.5m to €3.5m), Brighton's on-loan goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen (+€1m to €3m) and the reinvigorated playmaker Otar Kiteishvili (+€1m to €3m). If the Georgian's contract had not expired in the summer, the increase would have been even greater.

How Transfermarkt market values work

The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.

The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
